Wipro wins Global MAKE Award 2009
December 10, 2009
Wipro Technologies, the global IT services business of Wipro Limited (NYSE:WIT) today announced that it has been recognized as a winner of the 2009 Global MAKE (Most Admired Knowledge Enterprises) Award for ‘developing knowledge workers through senior management leadership’ and ‘creating an environment for collaborative knowledge sharing’. This is the third time that Wipro Technologies has been recognized as a Global MAKE winner.
Established in 1998, the Global MAKE Awards are administered by Teleos, an independent research firm based out of the UK. The 20 Global MAKE Winners are chosen by a panel of Global Fortune 500 business executives and leading knowledge management and intellectual capital experts after several rounds of consensus building on key knowledge performance dimensions amongst the panel.
Wipro Technologies is the only Indian company to be awarded the Asian MAKE Award seven times in a row and is also the prestigious winner of the Indian MAKE Awards, five times since the inception of the award. The ever evolving knowledge-based initiatives within Wipro proved their worth to business yet again in helping address the challenges thrown up by the downturn.
Rory Chase, Managing Director of Teleos, said “The MAKE Winners are effectively transforming organizational knowledge into wealth-creating ideas, products and solutions. Even during this global recession, they are building portfolios of intellectual capital and intangible assets which will enable them to out-perform their competitors now and in the future. Wipro Technologies has exhibited leadership in imbibing a culture of knowledge sharing and collaboration right from top to bottom within the organization”.
Expressing happiness on these recognitions for Wipro’s knowledge initiatives at global, regional and national levels, Mr. Sambuddha Deb, Executive Vice President and Chief Global Delivery Officer, Wipro Technologies said, “We are extremely delighted to be a Global MAKE Award winner which highlights the importance of knowledge management at Wipro. Our knowledge management framework is aimed at building an ecosystem that helps us nurture intellectual capital and implement best practices which greatly benefits our customers. This award is a recognition and validation of our efforts on knowledge management and collaboration.”
The Global MAKE study has found that knowledge-driven organizations significantly out-perform their competitors. For the ten-year period 1999-2008, the Total Return to Shareholders (TRS) for the publicly-traded 2009 Global MAKE Winners was 8.8% – nearly four times that of the Fortune 500 company median.
