Wipro, Copal Partners may buy Lehman BPO Indian Unit?

September 16, 2008

News has been posted in various news and blog sites that Wipro and Copal Partners has shown interest in buying back office unit of Lehman brothers that filed bankruptcy protection. Not sure what will Wipro and Copal will do with the Lehman BPO uni. The Lehman BPO Unit’s 1,200 employee in India were working to support the parent company Lehman brothers. Without any work from the parent company I’m not sure what will these employees do?

May be Wipro and Copal may be thinking of using these employees with other clients. But with the current  state of the US economy, particularly the financial sector, it will be difficult for either Wipro or Copal to use all of the 1,200 employees in other projects.

Also, Wipro with its cash it can easily buy Lehman BPO, but not sure if Copal can buy it. Copal is a small BPO company with 800 employees and it has strong business focous in financial research, investment banking, equity and credit research may buy part of the Lehman BPO.

Rediff is reporting that Barclays and BNP are planning to buy the Lehman’s investment banking division in India.
