TCS BPO Services won Energy Efficient Award 2009

Mumbai, December 10, 2009: Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), (BSE: TCS.BO, NSE: TCS.NI), leading global IT services and consulting firm, announced that TCS BFS BPO (Banking and Financial BPO unit) has won the “Excellent Energy Efficient Unit Award 2009” at the 10th National Award for Excellence in Energy Management 2009 conducted by CII – Godrej at Chennai Trade Centre, Chennai. The objective of the Award is to recognize and Award “Excellence” in Energy Management in industries and facilitate sharing of information by excellent energy efficient companies.
TCS won the award among 150 participants from diverse industries. Companies were assessed on the basis of trend of the reduction in specific energy consumption, innovation in identifying and implementing energy saving projects, saving achieved, methodology adopted, efforts to sustain the savings and how close the units are towards Global best. TCS emerged as a winner for efficient energy usage.
The benefits of energy efficiency and installation of energy efficient equipment is recognized by most of the leading corporates. Reduction in usage of energy reduces the carbon footprint. The potential for improved efficiency due to close monitoring of the ‘design vs. actual’ performance of the equipment in use – more so in the context of changing technology and increasing energy costs need no emphasis. Various measures post studies were implemented and the energy saving proposals achieved significant results. Innovative simple techniques like Green Zones and Red zones and green patrolling to monitor the same were also introduced. Post implementation of the recommendations, a net annual saving of 10% was achieved.
