The Am Law 50’s Dirty Little Secret: LPO
July 9, 2010

Author: Sanket Purani

Something everyone across the Legal Process Outsourcing world has known for some time – the majority of those who choose to procure legal process outsourcing services hope to do it without anyone else really knowing about it.  Kind of a not-so-well kept secret it seems given Fronterion’s recent study released yesterday.  The results do not surprise me really.  It’s analogous to a dirty secret people like to keep in the closet, in the safety of their home, or in this case their office.  And of course the secret’s obediently kept within the office of the dedicated LPO provider. No PIGS for Legal Process Outsourcing
May 24, 2010

There is no shortfall of headlines and pundits speaking on the troubles that the European Union (E.U.) and their Euro currency have been facing. There is small group of E.U members which have managed to tarnish the E.U’s global perception. They are collectively and coldly referred to as the PIGS nations. It’s an acronym and spells a word that does not evoke a comfortable feeling. And being a member of the PIGS group is even less than comfortable. Any executive within the LPO industry would dread receiving a similar association especially since they work so diligently to build the trust and comfort of their clients. Read more

LPO’s Ability to Innovate
May 18, 2010

I read an interesting blog article today on the Japanese and their ‘reverse outsourcing’ experience.  This made me wonder how and if we could apply this concept to our industry. Perhaps it is somewhat premature given LPO’s relative nascent state in the marketplace.  But it’s worth taking a little time looking back and studying how the Japanese industries have managed their growth. In the U.S. automobile market the Japanese made considerable progress grabbing market share from the “Big 3” automakers compared to the early days of their entrance in the 1970’s. They are now arguably the leaders in the U.S. auto industry. That is the beauty of the competitive marketplace. They went from being unrecognized, foreign automakers, importing their product into the U.S., to effectively becoming industry game changers setting up manufacturing plants in the U.S. Read more

Legal Process Outsourcing (LPO) – Top Ten Service Providers
May 15, 2010

1. Introduction
Up until recently, the legal profession experienced few if any dramatic changes in how they operate. However and in the last few years, the rise of new technologies combined with the renewed drive to cut costs in the wake of the global downturn has increasingly forced law firms and corporate legal departments alike to reevaluate how they operate and to consider outsourcing the more mundane tasks associated with the legal profession. This has led to the rise of legal process outsourcing (LPO) along with numerous new and unfamiliar firms, many of which are based offshore, to specialize in providing LPO services to both law firms and corporate legal departments. LPOs Should Study History of Product Recalls
May 6, 2010

“Quality is Job 1”
Many in the U.S. may remember that Ford Motor Company slogan in the 1980’s to 1990’s.  Quality was in fact a winning formula for Ford as it gained market share and proved its heritage from the days of Henry Ford. And ‘Total Quality Management’ (TQM) was one of those fads, or flavor of the month in management circles. And like all fads, they come and go, with managers looking for the next “buzz” management strategy to implement. The recent product recalls plaguing Toyota, Johnson & Johnson, and even Ford Motor Company ironically demonstrates how yesterday’s number one strategic initiatives can fall by the way side. That’s why lessons should be learned from past and present product recalls and applied to LPO management. Read more
