Emergence Of A New Normal: The Online Bar Association
May 9, 2011

SPurani | lposavvy.info::  Last weekend I had the pleasure of attending and participating in the Inaugural Meeting of The Online Bar. It was an enlightening experience that opened my mind to many new perspectives around the central theme, “Unveiling the Future of Law & Emerging Models for Legal Services”. Flying in from the cooler Northeastern U.S. into South Florida, the experience left me with a sense of warmth in more ways than one. It was apparent from the start of the conference that those in attendance were not only forward thinking individuals, but also those who looked to influence change in the legal profession across jurisdictional, international, and traditional boundaries associated with the practice of law. Unique LPO Management Insight
January 20, 2011

S Purani | LPOSavvy.info::  A survey conducted by Mr. Ravi Shankar, a Harvard Law School-trained lawyer and first year law associate, in 2010 gives a nice snapshot of the state of legal process outsourcing firms located in India.  The primary objective of the survey was to gather insight directly from LPO executive managers on the prospects of entering the legal process outsourcing arena as a provider.   However, Mr. Shankar’s report does more than that.  The results also provide a perspective of how LPO providers see themselves, not to mention some of the challenges they have faced while marketing their services in the US and UK.  This report is a summary of the responses Mr. Shankar received from some of the players in the LPO field who responded to his invitation to participate in the study.  It’s also important to note that the surveys were responded by the CEO, President or Managing Director of the organization. Outsource to Spend More?
August 12, 2010

Author:  SPurani | Interesting article at ALB Legal News, which the piece’s title alone caught my attention. “Corporates could halve their legal costs by outsourcing less.”  Interesting, right?  My first thought was how could this be?  The report’s statistics describe the Australian and New Zealand legal market.  Based on what Richard Stock, Catalyst Consulting Director, states, these departments are paying too much for the same work they could do in-house.  He sums up by stating that they could stand to improve their forecasting requirements to help reduce the costs. No PIGS for Legal Process Outsourcing
May 24, 2010

There is no shortfall of headlines and pundits speaking on the troubles that the European Union (E.U.) and their Euro currency have been facing. There is small group of E.U members which have managed to tarnish the E.U’s global perception. They are collectively and coldly referred to as the PIGS nations. It’s an acronym and spells a word that does not evoke a comfortable feeling. And being a member of the PIGS group is even less than comfortable. Any executive within the LPO industry would dread receiving a similar association especially since they work so diligently to build the trust and comfort of their clients. Read more

LPO’s Ability to Innovate
May 18, 2010

I read an interesting blog article today on the Japanese and their ‘reverse outsourcing’ experience.  This made me wonder how and if we could apply this concept to our industry. Perhaps it is somewhat premature given LPO’s relative nascent state in the marketplace.  But it’s worth taking a little time looking back and studying how the Japanese industries have managed their growth. In the U.S. automobile market the Japanese made considerable progress grabbing market share from the “Big 3” automakers compared to the early days of their entrance in the 1970’s. They are now arguably the leaders in the U.S. auto industry. That is the beauty of the competitive marketplace. They went from being unrecognized, foreign automakers, importing their product into the U.S., to effectively becoming industry game changers setting up manufacturing plants in the U.S. Read more

Legal Process Outsourcing (LPO): Giving lawyers a case of their own medicine?
July 29, 2009

For certain the legal profession, long despised for its sky high fees, is one profession that few Americans would be sorry to see outsourced to India resulting in large scale job losses – at least for lawyers that is. Hence, will the emergence of Legal Process Outsourcing (LPO) finally cut the legal profession and its fees down to size? Maybe. Or maybe not. Read more
