Singapore, September 30, 2009: Tata Consultancy Services (BSE: TCS.BO, NSE: TCS.NS), the leading IT services, business solutions and outsourcing firm today announced that it has been chosen by Singapore’s People’s Association, a statutory board under the Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports, to provide annual Application Management Services (AMS) for two years in a multi-million dollar deal. The People’s Association is a grassroots government organization in Singapore.
Under the agreement, TCS will develop and maintain People’s Associations’ business and citizen centric applications including mission critical applications. This involves consolidating its multiple vendor environments allowing reduced maintenance costs and simplified system administration. This will enable higher process efficiency and staff productivity across the organization – all these will contribute towards lower costs spent on application maintenance, while improving end user satisfaction and enhancing citizen experience with the agency. I visited a couple of months ago a senior IT executive from a large insurance firm and we discussed among others their sourcing strategy. The executive mentioned they are considering (offshore) outsourcing certain additional activities, while they are at the same time contemplating whether some of the IT activities they outsourced more than ten years ago should be insourced again.
