Capgemini, one of the world’s foremost providers of consulting, technology and outsourcing services, announced the results of the Capgemini Executive Outsourcing Survey which found that most executives today agree that outsourcing IT, finance and accounting, HR or procurement can help a company survive the current economic downturn. The survey also revealed that while a majority of executives (79%) recognize outsourcing may have a poor public perception, this has little to no effect on most executives’ (72%) decision to outsource, suggesting the benefits of outsourcing outweigh the potential negative impact from poor public opinion. If you are a buyer, the economic downturn has turned the real estate, automotive and just about every other market, including the market for outsourced services, into buyers’ market. In fact, CFO.com recently pointed out that when it comes to negotiating outsourcing contracts, customers are clearly in the driver’s seat given the numbers of delayed outsourcing projects there are due to the uncertain economy. Moreover, many firms providing IT outsourcing services have already taken a hit from the the consolidation on Wall Street. Whereas India is still considered to be the preeminent offshore outsourcing destination for IT services as well as in BPO, the Philippines has fast made a name for itself in providing offshore call center and BPO related services. In fact, few can argue that Filipinos, with their relatively neutral accents and better understanding of and affinity towards American culture, aren’t at least better at providing voice related work.
