Does Business Process Standardization help BPO?
We all know how outsource companies brag about their CMM level, Six Sigma, COPC - 2000, etc. Two years back I wrote an article explaining how business process standardization helps customers in their outsourcing projects. Last week I read an article in Harvard Business Review, When Should a Process Be Art, Not Science? that made me to think about standardization and BPO. Is Silicon Valley doomed?
Joint Venture: Silicon Valley Network and the Silicon Valley Community Foundation has just released their 2010 Index of Silicon Valley and the results are not so rosy. In fact, the report concluded that Silicon Valley faces a steep climb out of the current economic downturn and this contradicts the perception that the Valley is a place that can continually reinvent itself. Cloud computing: Just was the doctor ordered for Indian IT Outsourcers
Cloud computing is considered to be the next big thing and increasingly Indian IT outsourcers are trying to grab a piece of the cloud. After all, they are in a race to broaden the scope of their outsourcing services in order to compete for the high level work that usually goes to larger western rivals like Accenture, IBM and Hewlett-Packard. Is post-contract verification in an outsourcing is good?
Post-contract verification is basically a process for adjusting the price for the services based on the results of due diligence taking place after contract signature rather than before. This carries all the obvious risks and uncertainties about price renegotiation at a time when bargaining power has shifted from the customer to the service provider. So why have customers agreed to adopt this approach? Backshoring-Reverse Globalization
In recent years, “backshoring” has occasionally been noticed by outsourcing observers (including us) and the media. However, backshoring may increasingly become the buzzword of the future as the global economic downturn is proving to be a game changer for outsourcing and globalization in general. In fact, here are some backshoring trends or statistics that have recently been mentioned by the media: Related posts:Decoding the lexicon: backshoring, reverse outsourcing, insourcing or rural-sourcing?Rural Outsourcing Not About Anti-Globalization/Patriotism But Alternative To OffshoringReverse outsourcing; yes, it happens!
India & innovation: Why hasn’t India produced an Apple, Google or Microsoft?
A New York Times article recently made an interesting observation: While American and European workers worry about their jobs being outsourced to India, Indians are worried that their country will be more like “Scranton PA” rather than “Silicon Valley.” In other words they worry over the fact that while India has achieved phenomenal success in becoming the world’s back office, it has not quickly moved up the value chain into more lucrative work. So why hasn’t India itself produced an Apple, Google or Microsoft and can India actually innovate?
